19 th Nov - Waterfront Apartment

Did I mention we are living with a view of one of the best scenic wonders in New York? The famous 'Gowanus Canal Oil Slick' is visible from our front door. Gowanus Canal isn't listed as a prime bathing spot, mostly due to the startlingly toxic nature of its waters, but don't let this put you off. Decades of industrial pollution have turned these waters into a veritable cornucopia of essentials minerals that your body needs. Unfortunately it also contains compounds of severely carcinogenic, if not outright deadly, nature.

We were rather taken aback at the appearance of a swan in the canal. The canal is definitely ugly duckling territory. Recently a juvenile minke whale swam up the canal, apparently lost. An attempt was made to get it out to open sea but the whale, christened 'Sludgy', didn't live long enough to get very far. It died near an oil depot.
