Nov 25 - Washington, DC

On the way home from Virginia, we paid a whirlwind visit to the nation's capital. We joined the hordes of tourists and walked around the Mall (no, not the shopping one, the Mall is the name of the grassy lanes that are home to the Lincoln Memorial, the Capital building & the Whitehouse)....

Alex & I canoodling in front of the Lincoln Memorial. Pretty wild to imagine this area completely full of Vietnam war demonstrators.

Respectful as always...

To make some sarcastic comment about these two signs is just too easy, so I'll let you think of your own.

The Metro stations are very 1950's space age...Danger, Will Robinson.

Much more swish than the New York subway - you can even understand what the announcements say.

Then we headed to the Smithsonian. It is so huge we had to pick just one section, so Alex led us to the National Air & Space Museum. So neat to see all those massive space ships up close. I was surprised by how small some of them are. How claustophobic!

Alex proudly poses in front of the Apollo 11 capsule.

The Rong brothers in front of the Wright brothers plane.

Very neat to get to see this plane.

This is the toilet in the replica of Skylab. I particularly like the ergonomically shaped bum receptor. Cos' I always wonder....

Alex was most horrified, but in a room off the end was a collection of 'American Culture' memorabilia.

Amongst such treasures as Lincoln's hat, the signpost from M*A*S*H & Edisons lightbulb, I got to meet someone else who knows it's not easy being green...
