Thanksgiving.... GUNS!!!

The ex pat NZ Lee family took 3 more kiwis under their wing this Thanksgiving and treated us to a beautiful turkey dinner and more traditional American pursuits than you can shake a stick at. Did I say stick? I found out today that around here 'stick' means gun....

Rach: I took my first ever shot of a firearm today. Stephen taught me how to use a .22 rifle. I was so proud of myself, hitting the target with almost every shot.

I was also given a try of a much grrrr-er .270 & a .45 muzzle loading rifle. The boys thought my reaction to the big guns' kick-back was hilarious. (Sorry girls, I let out a big girly shriek)

Alex: This is me being a big man with a big gun. It's the .45 muzzle loader, i.e. you load it via the 'business' end of the rifle. You load a percussion cap, gunpowder charge, and shell in a sabot housing. Why do they use this old-fashioned technology? Around here they have a special muzzle loading hunting season - it was meant to encourage antique weapons but pretty soon arms companies began manufacturing highly advanced muzzle loaders.

This year Adam, our resident redneck, didn't find any bears to shoot and had to be satisfied by going on a cardboard baby hunt. He's getting this one made into a hat.

Rach: Dad, thought you'd like to know I helped out our kind hosts by mowing their lawn.

Yeeee-Haaaaaaaaaaaaa!!

Ciara had a look at the laser pix and says "Can Santa please drop off some pink lasers from Alex and Rachel for Xmas".
Did you get that?, well it wouldn't be too hard would it (he he)....Lucky she didn't order the turquiose and purple ones too. The photo of people in the laser beams in front of the house is sensational. Luv the blog. Now could you head south and get some pix in Texas, as after all this is OUR virtual holiday too (isn't it?.... [creased brows]). Love C&C&Iceman
